95 Personnel Extinguish Fire on Makin Melimpah Vessel

As many as 95 personnel of North Jakarta and Seribu Islands Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency extinguished fire on Makin Melimpah vessel at Muara Baru Port, Jalan Tuna III, Penjaringan Urban Village, Penjaringan District, Monday (1/26) night.

Head Section of Operation for the Sub-agency, Gatot Sulaeman said the incident was reported at 11:17 PM.

"Then we deployed 19 fire trucks with 95 personnel," he said, Tuesday (1/27).

The firefighting process began at 11:20 PM. Approximately 25 minutes later, the fire was successfully localized and prevented from spreading to other vessels.

"Personnel then continued the cooling process at 11:52 PM," he added.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the ship's engine room during the unloading process. The crew attempted to control the fire using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR), but the flames continued to spread.

"The police will conduct a crime scene investigation," he continued.

He stated that there were no fatalities in the incident. However, one crew member suffered minor injuries from a sprain while attempting to escape. Meanwhile, material losses from the fire are estimated to reach billions of rupiah.

"The entire firefighting process was declared complete at 2:42 AM. We also urge ship owners to always adhere to safety standards, particularly regarding electrical installations and the availability of fire extinguishers," he reminded.
